Due to their alleged involvement in a violent robbery of a postal worker last year, two guys from Denver are facing federal charges. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal grand jury indicted Elijah Woods, 21, and Marquis Taylor, 28, on charges of mail theft, assault with intent to rob a U.S. Postal Carrier, and conspiracy.
The indictment claims that Taylor, Woods, and 28-year-old Dravell Emon Ross attacked a mail carrier in broad daylight during her lunch break in September 2023 at Utah Park. In order to gain access to community mailboxes, they planned to take a universal mailbox key. Although the three were unsuccessful in obtaining the key, they were successful in stealing a postal scanner, a number of mail items, and parcels. The postal worker was slightly hurt in the process.
Ross already had to deal with the fallout from his actions; on July 17, he was given a four-year sentence in federal prison for his role in the crime. Since his arrest on November 13, Taylor has been detained pending his trial. Woods, on the other hand, was freed on bond. On March 31, 2025, Taylor and Woods’ trials are scheduled to take place in federal district court.
Assistant United States Attorney Tim Neff is in charge of the prosecution’s efforts, while the United States Postal Inspection Service oversaw the investigation that resulted in these charges. This instance reflects a broader problem of attacks against postal workers, which have become more common in recent years and pose serious risks to the integrity of the postal service as well as the individuals who are attacked.
