Detroit-area man charged for allegedly shooting at wife

CBS Detroit, Farmington Hills, Mich.After reportedly shooting at his wife and locking himself in a house on Saturday night, a Farmington Hills man is being charged with several offenses.

Paul Holland, 44, faces two counts of felony firearm, felonious assault, and discharging a firearm within a building. He entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment on Monday. A $250,000 bond (10% cash or surety) was given to him.

Farmington Hills police were called to a residence in the 29000 block of Ramblewood Drive, close to 14 Mile and Middlebelt roads, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in response to gunfire inside a residence. According to a news release, a woman said that her husband, Holland, was hostile and inebriated.

The woman claimed to authorities that she had reached for a gun in self-defense when Holland reached for two firearms and began shooting at her, the walls, and the ceiling. The woman ran out of the house.

Holland refused to leave the residence when the police tried to defuse the situation. After obtaining a search warrant, the SWAT squad from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office entered the house and took Holland into custody.

There were no reported injuries.

In a statement, Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King stated, “I am incredibly proud of the heroic actions of the women and men of the Farmington Hills Police Department.” “They were calm and courageous in the face of danger and were able to expertly de-escalate a violent situation that could have resulted in great harm to those involved, as well as the neighboring community.” Additionally, Chief King thanked the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for their support.

On December 11, Holland is expected to attend a pre-exam conference.
