Detroit-area pastor seeks community support in gifting home to mom of seven kids this holiday

(CBS DETROIT) INKSTER, MIWith the community’s support, an Inkster preacher intends to perform the ultimate Christmas miracle for a needy local family.

“At the moment, my life is a hassle. We’re always on the move,” Detroit resident Marquita Thomas remarked.

One day, Thomas, a single mother of seven children ranging in age from four to sixteen, hopes to locate a place of her own.

“We’ve been at hotels, different family members’ houses, and everything, but I make sure we stay together,” said Thomas.

Thomas, who works full-time and currently resides with other family members, claims that money is never plentiful.

“I just do the best I can with what I got,” she stated.

Her son developed a relationship with senior Pastor Rick Sykes while attending The Prevailing Church in Inkster two years ago, and the two of them became mentors to each other.

“I observed their location at that very moment. “Compassion just went up a notch, and my heart dropped,” Sykes added.

Sykes made it his goal to help Thomas and her children this holiday season and appealed to the locals for assistance in providing them with a place to live.

“That’s the ultimate goal, and I’m not going to stop until that happens,” Sykes stated.

She claims that for Thomas, a home would be the refuge she and her family long for.

“It would imply stability and safety. She stated, “My children won’t have to worry about where they’ll sleep tomorrow or whether we’ll be okay this week or the following week.”

Giving this needy family a house would be the ultimate Christmas miracle, according to Sykes.

“If you can help out in any way, it would be such a blessing,” Sykes remarked.

According to Sykes, he hopes to collect enough money by Christmas to assist this family in purchasing a home and paying their rent for a few years.
