Last week, Morgan Catton, 27, of Mount Clemens, was traveling to a friend’s home on Detroit’s west side when her Uber unintentionally dropped her off at the wrong place. A man on a bike attacked her while she was still walking.
Ubering from downtown Detroit to the vicinity of Hazelwood Street and 14th Street, Catton spent the night at a friend’s house to avoid making the long drive back to her Mount Clemens home.
Catton works as a bartender at Tin Roof and has a familiarity with Detroit.
On September 13, at approximately 10:20 p.m., her ride unintentionally left her off a few blocks away from her intended location. Talking on the phone with a buddy, she made the decision to walk the remaining distance.
She moved aside to give room to a man riding a bike who she saw was approaching her on the sidewalk. Instead, he came to a stop in front of her and launched an attack.
“When he got close to me, he had got off his bike, looked at me, grabbed me by the neck, threw me to the ground where he repeatedly punched me in the face,” Catton stated.
A man who appeared to be in his 40s, about 5-foot-8 in height, and on a dark blue or gray bicycle viciously attacked the 27-year-old. After the attack, he rode off on that same bike.
According to Detroit police, the incident happened at random.
“There were no words exchanged,” Catton stated. “It happened so quickly. There was no time to react.”

The young lady needed numerous stitches to close her lips and eye, so she was taken to the hospital. Still, she claims that all she wants is to be alive.
“I thought I was going to die,” she stated.
The attack occurred in a prosperous neighborhood close to Gordon Park. The violence has startled the locals.

When strolling alone at night, Catton hopes that women will employ the buddy system and carry some form of protection. She wants to raise awareness about these attacks and let people know they happen, that way nobody other gets harmed.
“I have like a sick feeling in my stomach that if they don’t find him that he does something like this again,” she stated.
