DETROIT – Two major sporting events and two nearly sold-out productions of “The Sound of Music” are expected to add significant traffic and fill parking spaces in Detroit on Saturday.

The two performances of the musical will take place at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Fox Theater. There will be a game between the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:10 p.m. at Comerica Park on Saturday and a game between the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators at 2 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena.

Guests are requested to arrive early and to park in advance online via Parkwhiz.com. Parking can also be secured using the The District Detroit mobile app, available from the iTunes App Store and the Google Play Store.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has banned right turns from Woodward Avenue south on I-75 south, Sproat Street, and Henry Street. The suggested detour for I-75 south is I-75 north to the intersection on John R. Street. Montcalm Street, Elizabeth Street or Adams Avenue will take you to Cass Avenue and adjacent parking lots.

Doors open 90 minutes before each show of The Sound of Music and the Red Wings-Senators game, while the gates of the Tigers vs. Pirates game open 100 minutes before the game.
