Detroit Lions cut defensive end James Houston ahead of Thanksgiving game against Chicago Bears

James Houston, a reserve defensive end, was cut by the Detroit Lions because he did not perform as well as he did in his rookie campaign.

Two days prior to playing Chicago (4-7) in their yearly Thanksgiving game, the NFC-leading Lions (10-1) made the move on Tuesday.

After Detroit selected the former Florida star in the sixth round, Houston recorded eight sacks in seven games in 2022. He only played in two games last season because to a broken leg, but this season he showed his abilities by playing in eight games and recording just one sack.

Lions coach Dan Campbell stated, “We had James up for a number of games, it just never quite worked out,” “Sometimes, you just need a fresh start.”

This season, the Lions have lost three edge rushers to injuries: John Cominsky, Marcus Davenport, and Aidan Hutchinson. They purchased Za’Darius Smith from Cleveland during the trade deadline to partially offset the losses.
