Detroit Lions rookie CB Jeff Okudah needs season-ending surgery
Jeff Okudah’s rookie season is over.
The Detroit Lions cornerback will have surgery early next week to treat a groin injury that has preoccupied him for the past few weeks, according to multiple reports.
Okudah, number 3 in the 2020 draft, has appeared in just nine games for the Lions this season, including six starts. He opened his career by defending several of the league’s top recipients, including Davante Adams of Green Bay, DeAndre Hopkins of Arizona and Julio Jones of Atlanta.
This baptism of fire provided the young defender with a great learning experience and it should pay off for him and the Lions in the future.
In those nine appearances, he was targeted 50 times, allowing for 38 receptions for 579 yards and a touchdown. He has been credited with two pass defenses, including his first career interception when he undercut a throw intended for Hopkins.
