“I pray to God that you would touch every hurting heart. “I pray, God, that you will wipe away every tear, and I ask right now, in the name of Jesus, that you will give your people strength,” preacher Mikiah Keener said.
The family believes the crime was senseless.
“It’s complete anarchy out here. It’s completely chaotic. Nobody should have to go through the process of burying someone, especially after a senseless crime,” Richard Castro, Ireland’s cousin, told 7 News Detroit. “It’s senseless, man.” Tommy was, in fact, a good man. He was not among them. “He was one of the others.
Investigators believe the suspect, 34-year-old Craig Michael Bergeron of Saline, ended up beating someone else in St. Clair Shores after killing Ireland. He was apprehended on Tuesday.
“We have no idea who he is. Ashley Ireland, the victim’s sister, said she’d never seen him before.
She told 7 News Detroit that her family is still waiting to talk with murder detectives to receive answers to all of the unanswered questions. They want to determine what, if any, link the suspect had with her brother and why he wanted him dead.
“He adored everybody. “He was a gentle giant,” Castro stated. “Tommy smiled. He had heart. He donated. He watched out, and he had nieces and nephews. He’s ridiculous. He’s gone make ’em laugh.
Ashley Ireland stated that her brother adored his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.
On Thursday, 7 News Detroit reached out to Detroit police regarding the matter. We were assured that more information would be supplied once the defendant was arraigned and charged.
“Hopefully, justice takes heed and takes care of the situation fast and swiftly,” Castro said CNN.
