Detroit police investigating reports of children sleeping outside on city’s west side

(CBS DETROIT)Following allegations of children sleeping outside, the Detroit Police Department and Child Protective Services arrived at a residence on the west side of the city on Monday night.

Police said in a statement that they are aware of the accusations and are looking into the situation.

Neighbors told CBS News Detroit that the charges at a house on Leslie Street have been going on since at least September, despite the fact that pictures of the incident only recently began to circulate online.

“I mean, everyone has been observing the children sleeping on the porch for months. I saw them outside when I arrive home at around twelve because I leave work late. Elizabeth Jones, a neighbor, observed, “They take a blanket from their bookbag, lay outside, and go to sleep.” “We call the police, we call CPS, and nobody does anything, so I just hope somebody help them kids ’cause it’s cold now.”

Marc D’Andre, who was live broadcasting on Facebook on Saturday night, went to the porch of the house to see if the children outside needed assistance. He was interviewed by CBS News Detroit. At the time, he stated, the windchill was 14 degrees. D’Andre claimed that after a teenager refused assistance, his video became viral and other local officials were contacted.

“He just said, ‘I’m good.'”…” I’m all right, you know. “Why are you out here?” I asked. What’s happening? What’s the cause? Additionally, he solely used the word “Abuse.” That’s the only other thing he said other “I’m good” and declining assistance. D’Andre said.
