(CBS DETROIT) Late Tuesday night, a Detroit police officer was hurt after being pulled by a car that was running away.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers on patrol in the vicinity of Greenfield and 7 Mile roads noticed a running car pulled into a house’s driveway and obstructing a sidewalk. According to the police, the two teenagers inside seemed to be hiding something beneath a seat.
The two teenagers were requested to exit the car by the authorities as they came up to it, but they refused.
According to officials, when one of the policemen tried to unlock the door, the driver backed into another vehicle, then slammed into the police car, dragging one of the cops as he tried to turn. That cop and another officer shot the escaping automobile many times out of fear for their safety.
Later, the vehicle was located close by in the 19400 block of Prevost Street, along with an 18-year-old suspect. Three gunshot wounds to the arm and one to the chest were discovered on the suspect.
The cop who was pulled by the car was transported to a nearby hospital and is doing well. Additionally, the 18-year-old was brought to a hospital, where their condition is severe.
The second suspect, a 17-year-old, is still being sought by police in the neighborhood. The police think they know who that suspect is.
According to Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald of the Detroit Police Department, both individuals are thought to be part of a local gang.
You are urged to contact Detroit police or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP if you know anything about the event.
