A 30-year-old man has been charged with killing a former Detroit Police Department officer, shooting two other people, disposing of his body in a park, and taking his vehicle.
Erik Davis is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion, firearm discharge in or at a building, firearm discharge in or at a building causing serious impairment, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felonious firearm, according to a statement released by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, September 18.
Officers from the Detroit Police Department responded to a shooting report at a residence on the 15300 block of Ferguson Street on June 30, 2022, at 11:10 a.m., according to the prosecutor’s office. They spoke with a 39-year-old lady who was unharmed throughout their conversation.
When police went back to the address after receiving another complaint of a shooting about three hours later, they discovered a 47-year-old male who had been wounded in the hand. His condition was stable when he was brought to the hospital. Davis was taken into custody by the police that day.
The retired police officer Steven Hodo also had a missing person’s report filed by Detroit Police on June 30, 2022. At the time, police indicated in a statement that Hodo’s car and gun had been stolen and that Hodo had used his gun in the Ferguson Street shootings.
Hodo’s body was discovered by investigators on July 14, 2022, more than two weeks later, in a park. Hodo’s cause of death was determined to be homicide after he suffered sharp force injuries to his head.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Hodo died as a result of an argument he had with Davis on June 28, 2022. Hodo’s body was allegedly moved by Davis, who then took his gun and car.
Davis is being detained without bond at the Wayne County Jail.
