MONROE COUNTY, Mich.(DDN) – The Michigan State Police First District stated that a Detroit lady died in an overnight incident involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles on Interstate 75 in Monroe County.
The accident occurred about 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, and all southbound lanes of I-75 were closed for several hours at the Ohio-Michigan state boundary.
When troopers from the Monroe Post arrived, they discovered a 2023 Hyundai Kona parked against the median barrier. The driver, a 56-year-old Detroit woman, became unresponsive and was taken from the vehicle. “Lifesaving efforts were started and turned over to EMS upon their arrival,” the troopers said.
She was transferred to ProMedica Toledo Hospital and pronounced dead, according to the report.
The passenger, a 43-year-old Detroit man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment. The occupants of the other vehicles were not wounded.
According to preliminary findings, the Hyundai driver was traveling southbound on I-75 near Gaynier Road in Erie Township when it collided with the back of a trailer being pulled by a 2022 Volvo semi-truck. This region is approximately five miles south of Monroe.
Following the incident, the Hyundai driver lost control and collided with a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 33-year-old Warren man. There were three people on the minibus.
The Michigan Department of Transportation reported that all southbound lanes of I-75 were closed near South Otter Creek Road, exit 9, due to a crash ahead on the interstate.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Transportation, and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted troopers on the site.
The investigation is continuing.
