A woman was shot early Thursday as she drove down Interstate 94 on the city’s east side with two children, according to Michigan State Police.
The woman was taken to the hospital, and the children were unharmed and released to their family on the scene. The Michigan State Police’s Second District Freeway Investigative Support Team is looking into the event, according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to state police, the victim called the Detroit Regional Communication Center at 1:40 a.m. to report being shot while driving west on I-94 near Mount Elliott.
Officers discovered many bullet holes in her vehicle, as well as round shells on the roadway, according to MSP. They closed the freeway to examine the incident, but it has already reopened.
“We don’t know why the driver was shot at and have no information on the suspect or suspect vehicle,” First Lt. Mike Shaw, an MSP spokesman, stated in the post.
MSP encourages anybody with information on Thursday’s incident to call 855-MICH-TIP or report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
