A two-hour police chase that began in an east-side Detroit neighborhood concluded on Radnor Street between Brenden and Linville, with neighbors describing their New Year’s Day as beginning with a boom.
“Sirens, lights, and way too much excitement,” remarked neighbor James Grenwick. With almost 20 police units pursuing the culprit, moments were captured by a 7 News Detroit video crew on the Lodge.
According to Air Force veteran James Grenwick, the altercation began at 2 a.m. at the residence next door. Police arrived to what was described as a stabbing incident.
“No one stabbed the 59xx Radnor. “Confirmed” was heard over the scanner. “They’ve been shouting and arguing for an hour and a half,” Grenwick told me.
However, the couple’s domestic disagreement worsened.
“He just fired shots at officers,” I heard over the scanner. “More police arrived. He took off. “There were at least ten cars chasing,” Grenwick stated. The suspect departed in a black Chevrolet Tahoe, which was thought to be his vehicle.
The pursuit was underway, sweeping through Detroit’s neighborhoods. “He looks like he might be getting on the freeway here,” I heard over the scanner. Freeway camera footage from I-94 and Harper showed the suspect being pursued by a swarm of police vehicles.
“We are still talking with him about pulling over,” was heard over the scanner. With nothing deterring the offender, Detroit police asked Michigan State Police for assistance as speeds on the interstate exceeded 90 mph.
“All units; he may still be armed. “Male possibly armed,” was heard over the scanner. However, officers did say something unusual during a pursuit.
“Be advised that he is the suspect, and he is FaceTiming the victim from his phone,” was heard over the scanner. Around 4 a.m., the suspect decides to return to his house on Radnor Street, where he quarreled with his girlfriend.
“When he comes to a stop, have everyone stand down for a bit. We will need to get him out of the car. “We’ll conduct a felony stop; do not approach the car,” they heard over the scanner.
“When he came back, where did he pull over?” wondered Faraz Javed, a 7 News Detroit reporter. “He was right in front of 37 over there,” Grenwick explained.
“One in custody… confirm, one in custody,” came over the scanner. Faraz communicated with the girlfriend, but she refused to go on camera. She claimed the suspect had assaulted her in the face.
Meanwhile, because January 1st is a holiday, Detroit Police were unable to provide additional information on the event.
