Following his extradition from California in September, McWilliams will face the charges in the 41st Circuit Court in Dickinson County, according to a press release from theDepartment of Attorney General.

The case alleges that McWilliams sexually assaulted a child in a relative’s residence back in 2018, with charges including one count of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and one count of Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes. Funding for the extradition of McWilliams came from a $1 million state appropriation destined to support Operation Survivor Justice, a collaborative endeavor among the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local County Prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service. This operation is designed to swiftly locate and return to Michigan offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants. Dana Nessel, the Michigan Attorney General, emphasized the initiative’s success, saying, “Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact across Michigan and the nation,” as per thepress release.

A formal pretrial date for McWilliams has not yet been scheduled. The Operation Survivor Justice initiative, partially funded through state appropriations, aims to ensure that individuals like McWilliams are brought before the justice system. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by government officials to address sexual crimes and provide justice for survivors, with Nessel noting that programs like Operation Survivor Justice are contributing to progress in this area.
