Dorchester Teen Charged with Firearm Possession After Roxbury Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon Discovery

An 18-year-old Dorchester resident was taken into custody by Boston Police early Friday morning in Roxbury on suspicion of possessing a handgun, including one count of unlawfully possessing a large capacity feeding mechanism. According to the Boston Police Department, Jociel De Los Santos-Santana was arrested after a traffic check by District B-2 officers who saw his unpredictable driving.

Based on the information provided, the police noticed a car speeding up towards Columbia Road at around 1:22 AM. The police turned on their car’s emergency lights and sirens in an effort to start a traffic stop. The front passenger’s actions, which included pinning his right arm to his body and constantly checking his waistline, raised suspicion among the officers. Additionally, they observed a backseat passenger who was not using a seatbelt and who did not show identification when asked.

When cops instructed the passengers to get out of the car and a Glock 19 was found in De Los Santos-Santana’s waistband during a pat-down, the scene became more heated. The handgun was found by the police with an extended magazine that had one chambered round and twenty-nine more rounds ready, for a total of thirty-one shots. De Los Santos-Santana was then arrested on many offenses including guns.

The young man will be charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device when he is arraigned in Roxbury District Court. The gun was taken from his waistband by the officers.
