BROCKTON – A Dorchester man was indicted today in Brockton Superior Court on charges stemming from a fatal stabbing in Brockton earlier this year, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
Jayden Fernandez, 19, was indicted on one count each of Murder and Armed Home Invasion. He previously pleaded not guilty to one count of First-Degree Murder in Brockton District Court and was ordered held without bail.
In the early morning hours of January 4, Brockton Police received a 911 call from a resident reporting the stabbing of a male family member at 17 Foster Street. Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded and located a male — later identified as 19-year-old Kyre Ambrose — suffering from multiple stab wounds. Ambrose succumbed to his injuries after being transported to an area hospital for life-saving measures.
Investigators with Brockton Police and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office discovered surveillance video from a gas station located near the Foster Street address, which showed Fernandez, operating a gray sedan, stop to use a good Samaritan’s cell phone.
After developing probable cause to arrest Fernandez through continued investigation, MSP troopers learned that he was being treated at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for a hand injury. Fernandez was located on hospital property, sleeping in the same gray sedan captured on gas station surveillance video, and was subsequently taken into custody.
Massachusetts State Police sought and obtained a search warrant for Fernandez’s residence in Dorchester where they located dark clothing, gloves, and a knife with reddish-brown stains on them.
According to
a GoFundMe fundraiser,
Ambrose was pursuing a promising future in dance at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles.
Fernandez will be arraigned in Superior Court at a later date.
