Driver Cited for Speeding and Running Red Light After Collision with Squad Car in Wisconsin

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (DDN) – A police officer from southeastern Wisconsin was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash after a driver allegedly ran a traffic light, wrecking the squad car.

A Facebook post from the Pleasant Prairie Police Department shows the destroyed squad car and states that the officer was involved in a multi-car accident on Thursday, January 30.

Officers say the collision occurred in the afternoon near the intersection of Green Bay Road and WIS 165. The officer spent several hours in the hospital with “some pretty bad injuries,” and the squad car was damaged.

The offending driver was reportedly cited for unreasonable and imprudent speed, as well as failure to obey a traffic signal.

“Thank you to the several witnesses who stopped to help and give a statement. Thank you to Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue for triaging the scene for injuries and transporting our officer. Thank you to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office for investigating the accident and assisting us with traffic control. Thank you to Froedtert South for your attention to our officer last night. Finally, thank you to all of you out there who obey the traffic laws and make our jobs easier.,” Pleasant Prairie Police Department said in a statement.

The officer is expected to fully recover and has returned home. No other information was provided.
