DORCHESTER COUNTY, South Car. (DDN) – One person has died and another has been hospitalized as a result of an incident in Dorchester County that closed a route for many hours.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett, the crash occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m. on Orangeburg Road, which is located about two miles west of Summerville in South Carolina.
On Wednesday at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies first alerted vehicles to the incident, stating that it occurred on the 1700 block of Orangeburg Road.
According to the troopers, the accident occurred between a 2023 Ford Transit Van and a 2023 Kia Sedan.
At the same time, the van was driving east on the road while the car was driving west.

The cars collided head-on at the intersection of Orangeburg Road and Hudson Place, and both vehicles ended up in a ditch.
The driver of the Kia passed away at the site. The name of the victim has not been published by the Dorchester County Coroner.
The driver of the Ford was sent to Trident Medical Center for medical care. The condition of the victim is not clear yet.
Each driver was the only person in their own vehicle. No other injuries have been reported.
The investigation into this crash is being led by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
