Driver Extricated After Severe Crash on Route 23 in McHenry County; 2 Hospitalized after Collision

MCHENRY COUNTY., Illi. (DDN) – On Friday night, a serious car crash in northwest suburban McHenry County left two people injured, as roads throughout the Chicago area were slick and snow-covered.

A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Route 23 and North Olbrich Road in unincorporated Harvard, as reported by the Harvard Fire Protection District.

Fire crews arrived at the scene at approximately 9:13 a.m. and were informed that one of the drivers was trapped inside his vehicle.

Due to the severity of the crash, additional fire agencies from Marengo and Woodstock were summoned to assist at the scene.

Rescue teams spent about 20 minutes freeing the male driver from a white sedan. He was subsequently transported to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford due to serious injuries.

A woman riding in the white sedan was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck involved in the crash was a man who was not hurt and chose not to receive medical care. He was the only person in that car.

The Harvard Fire Protection District reported that the roads were covered in snow at the time of the crash, leading to dangerous driving conditions.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

It remains uncertain whether any citations will be given or what exactly caused the crash.
