DDN – A driver involved in a crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension dragged a woman from her automobile and fled in the stolen vehicle, according to state police.
Albert Abuchaibe, 38, of Wyalusing in Bradford County, is charged with two counts of felony robbery, one count of felony assault, one count of felony theft, one count of receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor DUI of a controlled substance, and other offenses.
Trooper Anthony Petroski III, public information officer for Troop N, told lehighvalleylive.com that the accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Abuchaibe’s vehicle collided with another in the southbound lanes around mile marker 86.3 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, he said.
Abuchaibe then allegedly fled the scene, dragging the woman from her car near the Hickory Run Service Plaza, mile marker 86. He fled in the stolen automobile while troopers pursued him, despite numerous orders to stop, state police said.
According to police, troopers had to use force to bring the car to a halt, rendering it immobile. Abuchaibe was subsequently apprehended. It’s unknown whether he or the other driver were injured in the incident. According to a news statement, Abuchaibe fled for unknown reasons.
Abuchaibe was arrested Wednesday before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz, who set a bond of $500,000. Instead of bond, he was transported to the Carbon County jail. Court records did not immediately include Abuchaibe’s attorney information.
