Driver Hits and Kills School Girl, 8, Moments After School Bus Drop-Off in Houston

HOUSTON, Tex. (DDN) – Heartbreaking reports emerge from southwest Houston, where a child has tragically lost their life after being struck by a vehicle.

The event took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Concourse Drive close to Beltway 8. Authorities in Houston are currently looking into the situation.

An 8-year-old girl was traveling home from school when the incident took place.

As reported by Lt. Va’Shawnda McLean of the Houston Police Department, the student was dropped off by a bus from the Alief Independent School District. Witnesses say she suddenly ran into the street right after being let out, leaving the driver with no opportunity to brake before the collision.

The individual behind the wheel of the black SUV that was part of the incident stayed at the location and is working with authorities. According to reports, there were no indications of impairment or intoxication, and their speed was within the normal range.

A significant area was cordoned off, with numerous residents from surrounding apartment complexes present, including families and children who observed the aftermath.

The individual was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, they did not make it. Officials are contacting Alief ISD, the district responsible for the region, to gather more details.
