Driver Hits Jeep, Flips Audi and Injures Cop After Being Found Asleep at the Wheel in Long Island

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (DDN) – After falling asleep behind the wheel, a guy from Queens was taken into custody on Long Island. When the police arrived to wake him up, he pushed the gas pedal, which caused him to collide with another vehicle and injure a law enforcement officer, according to the police.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Friday, officers discovered Jeffrey Cabreja, who was in possession of crack and other drug paraphernalia, asleep while driving a blue 2023 Audi that was blocking traffic in the middle of Green Acres Road in Valley Stream. This information was provided on the Nassau County Police Department website.

Cabreja awoke and rapidly pushed on the gas as an officer approached the stopped car in an attempt to assist him. He accelerated so quickly that he collided with a black 2019 Jeep, which caused him to roll over.

A shoulder injury was sustained by one of the officers during the turmoil, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment procedures.

A 30-year-old man named Cabreja was also sent to a hospital after being removed by law enforcement from the flipped Audi.

During the course of their inquiry, the police discovered that he did not own the Audi and did not “have permission” to drive it. As a result, they placed him in handcuffs.

A number of charges have been brought against Cabreja, including driving while drunk, assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and many summonses for violations of traffic law and vehicle laws.
