An early morning collision on M-43 near Bangor resulted in one fatality and left a woman with serious injuries yesterday. According to

, a 28-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry died after his car, hitting a deer, went out of control and crashed into an oncoming Chevrolet Traverse around 5:10 a.m. on M-43 near 66th Street in Van Buren County’s Geneva Township. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The woman driving the SUV sustained serious injuries, but they are not expected to be life-threatening. As reported by

, she was 26 years old from the Lawrence area, pinned in her vehicle and had to be extracted by firefighters before being transported to the hospital. She was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.

Authorities shut down a section of M-43 for hours following the incident to conduct an investigation.
