Driver Suspected of DUI in Major Injury Collision on Ocean View Blvd in Logan Heights

According to the Watch Commander’s Log of the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), a collision involving serious injuries happened this morning in the Logan Heights area. Following a string of collisions near 3100 Ocean View Blvd., a male driver, age 21, suffered serious injuries after losing control of his car.

According to reports, the driver of a red 2019 Chevrolet Malibu veered into the eastbound lanes and struck an empty 2012 Toyota Tacoma that was parked on the curb. The hit was so severe, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), that the Tacoma collided with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was parked next to it, and then the Malibu crashed into an SDG&E power box, revealing hazardous live wires. A passenger in the Malibu somehow survived while being taken to the hospital with an open fracture to his lower right leg.

The crash that broke the quiet of Logan Heights in the early morning is still being investigated by the SDPD Traffic Division. The watch commander in charge, Officer D. O’Brien, said that drinking may have contributed to the occurrence. It has been reported that the driver, who has not yet been identified, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The neighborhood was kept safe when city utility personnel arrived to protect the area surrounding the exposed wires after the power box was knocked from its base. With the SDPD requesting that “anyone with information related to the above incident(s) is encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477,” the community’s role in assembling the events that transpired is demonstrated. Details surrounding the collision are still being investigated. Concerns about drunk driving and its ongoing threat to public safety are raised by the collision’s aftermath.
