Driver Who Ran Red Light in Meth-fueled Crash Sentenced to Prison and 6-year License Suspension

DDN – A man has been sentenced for a 2023 crash that resulted in one person suffering incapacitating internal injuries.

Timothy J. Carnes, 42, pled guilty in December 2024 to causing the Sept. 15, 2023 crash at U.S. 30 and North West County Line Road.

According to reports, Carnes blew a red light and collided with another vehicle, leaving the driver of the damaged vehicle with incapacitating internal injuries.

Police say they discovered a container of synthetic urine in Carnes’ pocket after the crash, which he admitted was for passing a drug test.

Documents state that a chemical test detected amphetamine and methamphetamine in Carnes’ system at the time of the crash.

Carnes was facing preliminary allegations of causing serious bodily injury while driving under the influence of a substance and criminal carelessness with a deadly weapon.

He pled guilty to the first charge and was sentenced accordingly on Monday.

The man received a three-year sentence from the Indiana Department of Corrections, and his license will be suspended for six years.
