MIAMI GARDENS, Flo. (DDN) – A birthday celebration at the movies in Florida took a tragic turn when a suspected drunk driver, speeding at nearly 100 mph, crashed into a family’s vehicle, resulting in the death of a woman and her three grandchildren.
Antonio Wilcox Jr., 25, is facing four counts of vehicular manslaughter and may soon encounter more charges. Miami Gardens police report that Wilcox was driving a black Kia Sorrento at 99 mph on a city street around 6 p.m. Saturday when he collided with the rear of a white Nissan Altima, causing it to crash into a Cadillac Escalade.
In the Altima were 51-year-old Rosa Mae Jones and her grandchildren: 10-year-olds Kamari Graham and Ireanna Johnson, along with 8-year-old Azariah McCall.
Two additional adults and two kids in the Altima sustained serious injuries. The family headed out to the movies to mark Kamari’s 10th birthday celebration. Police reported that at least three individuals in the Altima were not buckled up.
Security camera footage showing the crash has been obtained by local media outlets.
“Mr. Wilcox made a conscious decision to get into that vehicle and drive in a reckless manner with no regard to human life,” Miami Gardens Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty told reporters at a press conference.

“In my law enforcement career this has been the worst accident that I have witnessed and as a matter of fact, our traffic homicide detective had even stated the same, in their many years of investigating these types of crashes, the detective even stated this was the worst accident that he had to investigate,” he added.
Destiny Rosa, the mother of a surviving child, shared with local ABC affiliate WPLG that she was monitoring her son’s phone when it suddenly stopped moving.
“As soon as he left my house I started tracking his location and he wasn’t moving and I just knew something was wrong,” she told the TV station.
Wilcox, after receiving treatment at the hospital, is currently held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
