DuPage County Denies Pre-Trial Release to Suspects Accused in West Chicago Double Homicide

Ivan Ramirez, 18, was denied pre-trial bail in a recent DuPage County court ruling after being charged with double homicide and attempted armed robbery. Ramirez and his 17-year-old codefendant Xavier Arevalo are charged in relation to the November 9, 2024, incident that claimed two lives. According to a report yesterday, West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury and DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin revealed this news.

The incident report states that when West Chicago police officers arrived to the 700 block of W. Forest Avenue at around 6:14 p.m., they discovered a green Honda Civic with two armed men who had been shot dead. Following the inquiry, Ramirez and Arevalo were accused of setting up a meeting with Alejandro Rios and Antonio Delgado, the victims, in order to purchase more than $1,000 worth of THC cartridges. Rios and Delgado were killed when Ramirez and Arevalo are accused of firing at them after the altercation quickly turned into a robbery upon arrival.

Ramirez was finally freed and placed under arrest after being discovered later with a gunshot wound at a nearby hospital. Conversely, Arevalo was captured without any problems. In a statement obtained by the DuPage County News, State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said, “Thanks to the outstanding work of the West Chicago Police Department, both defendants allegedly responsible for the murder of Alejandro Rios and Antonio Delgado are now in custody where they will remain until trial.”

Even though the incident was unique, the effects of such violence are felt. “Violent crime affects us all and no community should be subjected to the type of violence alleged in this case,”Chief Fleury stated. Ramirez is scheduled to appear before Judge Brian Telander on December 16, 2024, and Arevalo is scheduled to appear before him on December 9.
