Spring has arrived, the trees are in bloom, the sun is shining, it’s a great time to get outside and celebrate Earth Day on Metro Detroit. Celebrations, clean-up work and educational events take place in the entire border triangle. Check out this list of the 10 best ways to celebrate Earth Day 2021 in Detroit.

Place: Belle Isle

Hear speakers wanting to make the planet better on the ground and march for the cause. Participants are encouraged to dress up as a creature of a different species or bring a token for the occasion.

9. Green fire: Aldo Leopold & a country ethic for our time

Place: Rochester Hills Museum on Van Hoosen Farm

Date: April 22, 2021

Celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a screening of the documentary Green fire. The documentary examines the life and legacy of the famous conservationist Aldo Leopold.

7. Earth.Wind.Weather Member Preview and Grand Opening

Place: Michigan Science Center

MiSci presents a new permanent exhibition in which you can explore 11 forces of nature. Extreme Weather is shown in the 4D theater along with interactive activities that model the powerful forces of the earth in real time. A special preview for members is on April 22nd with a grand opening for all visitors on April 24th.

6th Earth Day South African Wine Tasting

Place: Big Rock Chophouse

Date: April 22, 2021

Wine tasting with small bites that celebrate Mother Earth. Learn more about the wines from Michelle DeHayes CMS, Advanced Sommelier AHD Vintner’s, Nadine Maruszczak, US Sales Manager Babylonstoren Winery / Farm, and Christina Wood, Executive Pastry Chef Big Rock Chophouse / The Reserve. The cost is $ 45.

5. Earth Day Huron clean up

Place: Indian village park

Date: April 24, 2021

All ages are welcome to clean up the park for Earth Day 2021. Get together to clean up graffiti, rake leaves, pick up trash and sweep the sidewalks. Make earth-loving friends and help beautify the planet.

4. Free Tree Give-A-Way

Place: Palmer Park

Date: April 24, 2021

Help clean up Palmer Park, celebrate Earth Day 2021 and take home a free tree. Plastic Oceans and the Social Forestry Project will be handing out 200 individually wrapped Red Oak seedlings at the People for Palmer Park Earth Day Clean-up.

3rd Earth Day 2021 – Restoration of the Earth

Place: Red Oaks Nature Center

Date: April 24, 2021

Learn about restoration work and easy ways to go green at home. Make and take a unique earth day craft. This event costs $ 5 and pre-registration is required. All events take place outdoors.

2. BlueCommunities Detroit Shoreline Cleanup and Tree Giveaway

Place: Maheras Gentry Park

Date: April 24, 2021

The Social Forestry Project and Plastic Oceans International are celebrating Earth Day 2021 and the first BlueCommunities Detroit event. Get together to clean up the coastline and more at Maheras Gentry Park and go home with a free tree (saplings).

1. Library events

So many of the local libraries have stories and activities planned for Earth Day 2021. The Royal Oak Public Library has a special history, and the Harrison Township Library has STEM Saturday Earth Day with TechKnow Kids. Check with your librarians to see what they have in store.
