Eastern Market Brewing Co. just launched a new beer for the Detroit Lions – a move that was quickly blocked by former Lions who returned Barry Sanders.
The beer called Same Old Lager is a painful reminder for Lions fans – the more things change, the more they stay the same.
The 4.5% alcohol lager has an ironic slogan that reads, “Don’t set your expectations too high.”
“This classic American bearing is exactly what you would expect,” says the description.
Adorable puns aside, a picture of one of the cans appears to show that of Lions legend Sanders from the 1980s video game Tecmo Bowl. And he’s not particularly pleased.
“Some of you may have seen this on @freep today – I am not affiliated with this company and they are using my picture without permission,” Sanders tweeted. “My legal team is working on the process to end this as soon as possible. Sorry to all of the fans who have been betrayed.”
On Monday, Eastern Market Brewing Co. announced that it would cease sales and production of the lager.
