(CBS DETROIT) Students at Eastern Michigan University will be able to take part in a virtual program centered around climate change as part of the global Climate Entrepreneurship Exchange program.
According to a news release, undergraduates from four Michigan colleges and three North African nations will participate in the initiative. In addition, there are institutions in Egypt, Morocco, and Libya, as well as Wayne State University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan.
Starting in February, there will be four eight-week sessions available for the program. Every session, students will compete in a pitch competition to offer climate change solutions. Each session’s victorious teams will then go on to the championship match. In August 2026, a weeklong immersion trip will be awarded to the top two winning teams. Students from North Africa will visit Michigan, and students from Michigan will visit Morocco.
The program is being hosted by the University of Michigan’s William Davidson Institute and is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative.
The announcement read, “This program offers our students a unique opportunity to engage in global collaboration while addressing critical climate issues by developing entrepreneurial solutions,” said Kimberley Barker, a full-time senior lecturer at EMU’s College of Business. “By participating in this free program, EMU Undergraduate students will enhance their entrepreneurial skills and contribute to innovative solutions that have the potential to make a significant impact.”
To be eligible for the program, EMU students must apply by December 20. Visit the program’s website to learn more about it and to apply.
