An Easton man has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for producing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that the sentencing happened yesterday in a courthouse presided over by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl, detailing that John R. Young will also face a lifetime supervised release and victim restitution, which is to be determined at a later date.
During the FBI’s investigation of a dark web site associated with child pornography, they discovered Young to be an active participant who had uploaded illicit content; the federal search warrant executed on Young s residence on October 17, 2023, led to law enforcement seizing various electronic devices; those devices contained thousands of images of child pornography, including content that Young himself produced involving a child under 10 years old. After his arrest, he admitted to his involvement and attempted to create more such material using a covert recording device.
Young, 47, pleaded guilty in June to one count of production of child pornography after his October arrest, as stated by theU.S. Attorney s Office, emphasizing the egregious nature of his crime with Romero asserting, “Not only was John Young a prolific collector of child pornography, he sexually exploited a child to produce such an image and shared it with other predators,” adding that her office, along with the FBI, are steadfast in bringing justice to those who victimize children.
This case stands as part of the broader Project Safe Childhood initiative, a Department of Justice enterprise started in May 2006 aimed at tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project synergizes federal, state, and local efforts to more effectively find and prosecute internet predators while seeking to rescue victims; further details about Project Safe Childhood can be found on the initiative’s website.
The FBI Philadelphia’s Allentown Resident Agency led the investigation, with assistance from Assistant United States Attorneys John J. Boscia and Kyle Reynolds of the Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. This collaboration resulted in a significant sentencing, which Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs described as a testament to the dedication of the teams seeking justice for vulnerable victims.
