Eden Prairie Encourages Young Leaders with ‘Mayor for a Day’ Essay Contest

The future mayors of Eden Prairie may currently be playing on playgrounds or doodling in the margins of their notebooks, but the ‘Mayor for a Day’ Essay Contest by the League of Minnesota Cities aims to draw those future leaders out. Fourth through sixth graders are invited to take a stab at civic responsibility, penning essays that address what changes they’d enact if given the keys to the city for 24 hours. The winner’s brainchild won’t only earn them a $100 cash prize, but it will also be spotlighted in Minnesota Cities magazine, according to the

In the pages of textbooks and the school hallways, a powerful question emerges: “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” Young hopefuls are invited to respond in a 125 to 300-word essay.
