Early this morning, an El Cajon couple awoke to chaos as a car barreled through the wall of their condo, leaving them with injuries that required medical attention. According to the
City of El Cajon’s
official website, at about 2:10 am, local emergency services rushed to the 900 block of Jamacha Road after receiving reports of the collision. The El Cajon Police and Heartland Fire & Rescue teams found the vehicle had penetrated the home up to nearly its full length.
In a bizarre twist, about 80% of the car was inside the home when responding officers arrived. The couple, found in their bed struck by the vehicle, had been asleep at the time of impact. A statement obtained by the
City of El Cajon
recounted that the man sustained serious injuries while the woman was treated for minor ones. Both individuals were subsequently transported to a hospital for further care.
Meanwhile, the driver, a 26-year-old man from El Cajon, was unharmed and stayed at the scene to cooperate with authorities. He was subjected to Field Sobriety Tests by the officers in attendance but was eventually released. Investigators have identified excessive speed on the curved road as the preliminary cause of the accident.
Following the crash, a building inspector evaluated the compromised structure as a precautionary measure. Deemed unsafe in the wake of the vehicular intrusion, the condo added another layer of disruption for residents already dislodged by the unexpected incident. Their homes are now marked by the absence of security once promised by solid walls, and residents must navigate the path forward amidst temporary displacement.
