EVERETT, Wash. (DDN) – A dramatic rescue took place Sunday afternoon in Everett after a car crashed into a building, trapping its driver inside.
Everett Fire and Police responded to the 1900 block of Broadway around 3 p.m. after a vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, struck a light pole, and smashed through the south wall of Althea’s Footwear, which was closed at the time.
Firefighters initiated a technical rescue, stabilizing the structure and using the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver. The operation took approximately 50 minutes.
The driver, a man in his mid-80s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

A structural engineer from Everett Public Works assessed the damage to the building, while Snohomish PUD handled the damaged light pole. The crash led to the temporary closure of northbound Broadway as emergency crews worked at the scene.
The Everett Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
