Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Houston’s Synott Street as HPD Investigates

An elderly man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Houston’s west side while crossing a street, sparking an investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. yesterday on Synott Street, in an area described as poorly lit and lacking designated crosswalks, as reported by

ABC13

.

The Houston Police Department (HPD) stated that the driver involved in the collision claimed they did not see the man until it was too late, the accident resulted in the closure of the street in both directions for several hours, and as officials indicated, the deceased, said to be approximately 90 years old, was found dead at the scene by authorities who arrived shortly after the incident. By reiterating these details,

FOX26 Houston

further explained that the vehicle was traveling northbound when the man, present in the roadway, was hit.

Following the event, HPD’s Lt. Larry Crowson highlighted the emotional impact of such occurrences, saying, “It’s got to be terrible for the family of the person that has been struck and the people who were driving the car. [I] believe there was a passenger in there, and that passenger has to deal with that trauma also,” as

ABC13

reported. The driver, who reportedly showed no signs of intoxication, remained on site and has been cooperating with the investigation.

Findings from HPD’s investigation are expected to be handed over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, determining whether criminal charges will follow and, in a parallel statement, police said they will refer the case to a grand jury upon completion of their inquiry.
