Eustis Man Charged with Aggravated Assault After Allegedly Targeting Children at Bus Stop and Attacking Girl in Lake County Incident

Following a string of terrifying events on Friday morning that authorities believe endangered the lives of many children near a bus stop in Lake County, a Eustis man is being charged with multiple crimes. ClickOrlando claims that 59-year-old Arthur James Young attacked a girl who was making her way to her bus stop after allegedly attempting to run his truck over three middle-school-aged children.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Young allegedly tried to run over kids at a bus stop on Mills Street using his pickup truck at around 8:30 a.m. Young fled after a 911 caller intervened, but a short time later, close to Church Street, he got out of his car, seized a female, and attempted to strangle her.

Other locals intervened to calm the dangerous situation, with one resident shooting warning shots to stop the attack. The sheriff’s office stated in their statement that “the immediate and heroic actions of the complainant and other residents in the area likely saved lives and allowed responding law enforcement personnel to apprehend Young within minutes of the initial call being received,” according to ClickOrlando.

After the incident, Young was taken into custody and taken to AdventHealth Waterman for assessment. He now faces significant accusations, including aggravated assault, child abuse, and kidnapping, according to FOX 35 Orlando. After being cleared by the hospital, he will be detained at the Lake County Detention Center. Because the inquiry is still ongoing, officials might be investigating other facets of the case.
