Eviction Wave Hits Frisch’s Big Boy: 10 Southwest Ohio Locations Ordered to Vacate Amid Rent Dispute

The dining landscape in Southwest Ohio is shifting as a Hamilton County magistrate approved the eviction of four more Frisch’s Big Boy restaurants today, padding the total to ten evictions in recent weeks, as reported by FOX19. The affected locations include 7706 Beechmont Ave. in Anderson Township, 11990 Chase Plaza in Forest Park, 5351 North Bend Road in Green Township, and 1181 Stone Drive in Harrison, with the news mirroring last week’s court decision that mandated seven Frisch’s locations to vacate within seven days—a decision made by the same court and Magistrate Michael Inderhees.

These closures are due to “unforeseen circumstances” that have led Frisch’s Restaurants to face a significant number of evictions; these circumstances came to light on the 23 of October and have since unraveled into a more comprehensive series of legal disputes with the company’s landlord, Orlando-based NNN Reit Inc., which claims over $4.5 million in overdue rent as brought to attention by The Enquirer, the amount specified is in arrears from the restaurant chain’s obligation on their 78 locations spread across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

However, there was a sliver of respite for the beleaguered chain. At a hearing today, it was disclosed that rent for three Frisch’s locations had been paid, eluding the recent sweep of closures. This update comes from Local12. Consequently, the locations at 7706 Beechmont Ave., 5351 North Bend Road, and 1181 Stone Drive are temporarily spared, while the 11990 Chase Plaza outlet in Forest Park has been ordered to vacate in seven days.

Moreover, the turmoil for Frisch’s Big Boy doesn’t end there, with eviction hearings for more of its establishments outside of Hamilton County looming on the horizon, with proceedings scheduled at locations in Fairfield, Hillsboro, and Batavia in the coming weeks, the recent past of events reveals a potential trend that could affect the future of the historic restaurant chain. In an additional, unfortunate twist, employees from two other locations, one in Mt. Repose and another in Bethel, have been given notice that they will find their workplaces shuttered as of November 12, a harsh reality facing a brand that once stood as a regional icon, now succumbing to ongoing financial pressures.
