Expert Witness Discredited as Cash App Founder’s Accused Killer Nima Momeni’s Testimonies Under Fire

Inconsistent testimonies and questioned expert witness credibility have plagued Nima Momeni’s continuing murder trial in which she is charged with the murder of Cash App inventor Bob Lee. In the most recent proceedings, a number of issues have surfaced about Momeni’s remarks and the defense’s expert testimony.

On his third day on the witness stand, Momeni seemed to contradict his prior evidence on his awareness of Lee’s family ties, which highlighted inconsistencies. The prosecution questioned Momeni’s first allegation that she was unaware of Lee’s family ties. After acknowledging that he was aware of Lee’s family, Momeni stated, “I just he didn’t act like it,” according to Mission Local.

The events following the altercation were questioned by the jury. “Everything seemed fine at the time,” Momeni said in defense of his delay in responding to the incident, according to Mission Local, adding that he had advised his sister to keep Lee from going back to her house. After reading about Lee’s passing in the news, he decided to get legal advice.

When former SFPD Inspector Steven Pomatto joined the stand to testify as an expert, he reiterated the defense’s claim of self-defense and implied that Lee’s injuries were compatible with an encounter in which he may have attacked with a knife. But when prosecutor Omid Talai questioned Pomatto’s qualifications, concentrating on his pay and his experience claims, the defense’s case took a hit. According to KTVU, Pomatto acknowledged collecting $400 per hour for his testimony and not having experience with homicide investigations, but he denied lying on the job application about being a Navy SEAL.
