Methodology to Find The Cheapest Places in Rochester Hoods
In order to determine the cheapest places to live in Rochester, we needed to establish the criteria for what makes a place “cheap” and then use Saturday Night Science to apply it. We used data from the Census and extrapolated data from the BLS to come up with the following set of criteria:
- Overall Cost Of Living
- Rent To Income Ratio
- Median Home Value To Income Ratio
We assigned scores from 1 to 33 to each neighborhood in each category, with 1 being the least expensive. Afterwards, we calculated the average rankings for each neighborhood in order to create an index that measures affordability.
And lastly, we named the neighborhood with the lowest neighborhood index as the “Cheapest City Neighborhood In Rochester.” We are looking at you, Homestead Heights.
