We used Saturday Night Science to compare the FBI crime data on murders for the 57 cities in Washington with over 5,000 residents. This helped us identify the cities with the highest number of murders and the highest murder rates per capita.

Method to Calculate the Murder Capitals of Washington
Although there are surveys and public polls that rank the most dangerous cities in a state, we wanted to base our information on something more reliable than speculation and personal opinions. Instead, we used Saturday Night Science to compare the specific data from the FBI’s most recent year of reporting. We specifically examined the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, which provides a yearly summary of the number of murders in each city.
We examined all the cities in Washington for which we had FBI data from the most recent FBI Crime In The United States report. We had 57 cities left to rank.
We used the number of murders per person as the basis for ranking. According to the most recent data, Union Gap has the highest number of murders per person. This is the tenth time we are ranking the places in Washington with the highest number of murders per capita. The list for 2024 has been updated.
