The Fall River Fire Department made multiple rescues of pets and humans in an early morning fire.
According to Captain Eric Caffrey, at 3:22 a.m. on Tuesday, a fire was reported at 119 Emmett Street, a two-story single-family home, with two people trapped.
Car-3 assumed command upon arrival, noting fire on the first floor and heavy smoke throughout. Firefighters from Engine-5 and Ladder-2 rescued two occupants from a second-floor bedroom window using ground ladders. Both were treated by Rescue-6 for non-life-threatening smoke inhalation and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Engine-2 and Engine-4 advanced hose lines to extinguish the first-floor fire.
Rescue-1 conducted a primary search, saving two dogs and one cat; one cat escaped independently, but another perished.
Ladder-4 served as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), and the fire was quickly controlled.
Crews remained until 6:00 a.m. as the Fire Investigation Unit began its work.
A total of seven Fire units were dispatched with 20 Firefighters and 3 Emergency Medical Services units with 6 Medics.
The investigation found that the fire was unintentional and originated in the kitchen area with the cause yet to be determined as the investigation continues. The initial amount of damage is estimated at approximately $50,000.
No further details of the patient’s condition are available at this time.
