Fall River man pleads not guilty, released on personal recognizance, after allegedly crashing while driving impaired with young child in vehicle

A Fall River man faces several charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

According to

WJAR 10,

on Thursday, police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on State Road (Route 6) involving property damage. At the scene, officers found a white bumper with a license plate in the road, along with skid marks leading to a damaged utility pole.

The vehicle was traced to Jhalin Jacob Jamison Taylor. A bystander uninvolved in the incident informed police of a vehicle stopped on Brayton Avenue that might be connected to the crash. When officers arrived, they found another officer already speaking with Taylor, who exhibited slurred speech and confusion. Taylor admitted to hitting a tree before pulling over.

Officers then discovered a 3-year-old in the car, which matched the description of the vehicle involved in the Westport crash. They detected a strong alcohol odor from Taylor, who confessed to drinking at Chuck E. Cheese in Dartmouth earlier. His daughter was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Police conducted a field sobriety test, which Taylor failed, indicating impairment. A search of the vehicle revealed an empty 10-pack of nip bottles, and a breathalyzer test showed Taylor’s blood alcohol level at 0.15%.

A report was filed with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

According to court records, Taylor was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Child Endangerment, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, and Marked Lanes Violation.

Taylor pled not guilty Friday and was released on personal recognizance. He has a pretrial hearing scheduled for late July.
