Falls Township Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Murdering Mother in Philadelphia

30-year-old Falls Township man Sean Rivera was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole yesterday after he pled guilt to the April 2023 murder of his mother. Carol J. Clark, 72, was poisoned with fentanyl-laced iced drink by Rivera, who then took her to Philadelphia and shot her to death before locking down the shed where her body was found.

In front of Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr, Rivera entered many pleas to counts involving the firearms and substances used in the crime, including second-degree murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. According to Buck County’s official statement, Judge Corr said the case’s circumstances are horrifying.

Rivera was given a concurrent sentence of 28 to 56 years for counts other than murder in accordance with his guilty plea. He was also ordered to undergo a mental health and drug abuse evaluation and to stop communicating with any of his surviving family members. The Bucks County government’s website has released an official statement that includes information on the case and sentencing.
