A South Florida family is grappling with heartbreak after their beloved Alissa Taylor was tragically killed in a fiery hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 over the weekend. The devastating incident occurred early Saturday morning south of NW 79th Street in Miami-Dade County, leaving her family mourning the loss of a mother, sister, and friend.
Alissa Taylor, a 36-year-old mother to 10-year-old Malik, was a vibrant and dedicated woman whose world revolved around her son. “He means everything to her,” said Earline Scavella, Alissa’s sister. “Malik was her world.” Alissa worked hard every day to provide for her son and was known for her lively spirit, always the life of the party.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a BMW sedan crashed into the back of Alissa’s Nissan sedan on I-95. The force of the collision caused the Nissan to burst into flames, trapping Alissa inside. Sadly, she died at the scene. Her sister, Earline, says the loss of her sister is incomprehensible. “A part of me was taken that morning too,” Scavella said. “They took his mom, my sister, friend, my partner in crime.”
What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking is that the driver of the BMW did not stop after the crash. Authorities believe the driver fled the scene, and as of now, they have not made any arrests. Investigators are continuing their search for the driver responsible.
The family is urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure and justice for Malik, who has been left without his mother. “Accidents happen, but maybe if you would have stopped, you could have helped her,” said Scavella, who emphasized that her sister’s life could have been saved if the driver had stayed at the scene. “My sister lived for her baby, and for her to be taken away like this is very hard.”
The family has made a public plea for the driver to turn themselves in. “Turn yourself in, mistakes happen, make it easier for yourself and my family,” Scavella said. “Please do it for my nephew, please. He deserves justice for his mom.”
As the investigation continues, the family and loved ones of Alissa Taylor are holding each other close, finding comfort in their memories of her while desperately seeking answers. “If anybody knows anything that helps, it can bring justice for not only for me but her baby Malik,” Scavella said. “He deserves the justice.”
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, and as of now, there are no new updates regarding the driver. The Taylor family hopes that someone will come forward with information to help bring the person responsible for this senseless tragedy to justice.
