Fatal Altercation Claims Life in San Diego’s Grant Hill, Father and Son Detained

A tragic event occurred in the Grant Hill neighborhood, when a violent altercation led to the death of a 36-year-old Hispanic male. The confrontation happened last Friday afternoon close to the intersection of 27th Street and L Street, according to a press statement from the San Diego Police Department. Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 4:46 p.m. When they arrived, they found a man who had suffered severe head injuries and at least one stab wound.

After receiving CPR on the spot, the victim—whose identity has not yet been made public—was taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed away. Following the incident, Emilio Torres Valencia, 37, and his son, 17, were taken into custody as suspects. While his little son was transported to Juvenile Hall, the father was treated for his injuries from the encounter and then placed into County Jail.

The matter is being investigated by the Homicide Unit of the San Diego Police Department. It has been disclosed that this deadly encounter was the result of a series of altercations that began with a previous fight over vandalism a month ago that was not reported to the police. Tensions increased when the victim and one of the suspects reconnected, resulting in the suspect’s car being vandalized and colliding with a power pole.

The victim’s 15-year-old son was also involved in the altercation; he was at the scene but was later placed under his mother’s custody without being charged. As part of their investigation, San Diego Police are currently looking through local video and asking witnesses for information. Contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 if you have any pertinent information.
