Fatal Crash on Loop 202 Passenger Killed After Being Struck by SUV, Driver Suspected of Impairment (1)

DDN – The guy who was killed on a freeway in the East Valley last week has been recognized by the state police, and they believe that the driver of the vehicle in which he was riding may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A white Infiniti passenger car was in the westbound lanes of Loop 202 at Gilbert Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday night, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The driver, a 19-year-old man from Surprise, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a barrier wall.

It has been reported by the Department of Public Safety that two passengers exited the vehicle and were standing on the roadway when they were struck by a silver Ford SUV, which resulted in the vehicle bursting into flames.

Caleb O’Neal Scott, a Phoenix resident who was 20 years old, was one of the passengers who passed away at the scene of the accident. The other passenger was sent to a hospital with significant injuries.

It is believed by investigators that the driver of the Infiniti, who sustained minor injuries, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Charges are currently being considered. According to DPS, the driver of the silver Ford SUV is not facing any charges.

There is still an ongoing investigation.
