An accident that occurred early on Saturday morning on United States Route 81 close to Fruitland Road resulted in the death of a Gainesville woman who was 66 years old.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision involved two automobiles and resulted in two people being sent to the hospital with injuries.
A 2013 Kia Soul driven by Shelley Gene Jewell, who is 66 years old and is from Gainesville, Texas, was going southbound in the northbound lanes when the incident took place at approximately 5:23 in the morning. As a result of the injuries that Jewell experienced in the collision, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Jewell was not wearing a seatbelt. A head-on collision occurred between a Kia Soul and a Chevrolet Tahoe from 2016, which was being driven by Jose Noe Vences, who was 39 years old and from Dallas, Texas.
Vences, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was sent to Medical City Decatur with injuries that were not considered incapacitating.
Additionally, there were three passengers in the Chevrolet Tahoe, all of whom were from Dallas. In contrast, a female youngster of 12 years of age was sent to Medical City Decatur with injuries that were not considered to be incapacitating. Maria Tinico, who is 42 years old, was not hurt.
The collision did not result in any injuries for a 6-year-old male youngster. At the time of the occurrence, both of the children were being protected by their seatbelts.
Following the head-on accident, the Kia Soul came to a stop in the center median, while the Chevrolet Tahoe rolled onto its top and came to a stop across both lanes of traffic heading north.
This was found by the preliminary inquiry. A statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety noted that the investigation into the collision is still ongoing.
