A tragic incident unfolded in Joliet, Ill., as a suspect took the lives of eight individuals in a fatal shooting. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when the suspect ultimately ended his own life on Monday evening. After an extensive manhunt and a tense confrontation with law enforcement in South Texas, the authorities confirmed the suspect’s self-inflicted gunshot.
In a statement posted to social media, the Joliet Police Department announced that Romeo Nance, 23, the suspect, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals near Natalia, which is located approximately 30 miles southwest of San Antonio. The arrest took place at around 8:30 p.m. According to the department, the authorities have concluded that Mr. Nance tragically ended his own life using a handgun.
A manhunt was launched on Monday after authorities uncovered seven bodies in two separate homes on the east side of Joliet, a city located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago. Authorities have reported that Mr. Nance is also a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday afternoon, approximately four miles southeast of the location.
At a news conference on Monday evening, Chief William Evans of the Joliet Police Department announced that the Will County Sheriff’s Office had alerted the police of the discovery of seven bodies shortly after 12 p.m. on Monday. The motive for the killings remains unclear, according to Chief Evans. However, the police have reason to believe that Mr. Nance was acquainted with the victims, who seemed to have had a familial connection.

According to authorities, the suspect’s last known address coincided with one of the homes where the bodies were discovered. The ages of the seven victims and any additional information regarding their relationship with the suspect have not been disclosed.
“I have been a police officer for 29 years,” he stated. “This crime scene is being described as one of the most severe in recent memory,” said an individual closely involved with the investigation.
During a news conference, Deputy Chief Daniel Jungles of the Will County Sheriff’s Office revealed that deputies had been called to an apartment block in unincorporated Juliet on Sunday in response to a shooting. This incident is believed to be linked to the seven other victims. Deputies discovered an individual with a gunshot wound to the head, according to their statement. A man named Toyosi Bakare, aged 28, was taken to a hospital following an incident. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away, as confirmed by Deputy Jungles.
Authorities have connected the tragic shooting incident to a previous episode that occurred approximately 10 minutes earlier. During this earlier incident, a 42-year-old man was shot in the leg and fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, as stated in a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. In a recent release, it was reported that Mr. Nance’s red Toyota was spotted at both crime scenes. The victims, who were described as having no connection to each other, were unfortunate victims of what authorities are calling “random” shootings that occurred on Sunday.
