NEW YORK CITY, New Yo. (DDN) – The son and grandson of a late Colombo crime family mob boss have been arrested on federal firearms charges after a large cache of ghost guns was discovered at their Staten Island home, according to law enforcement officials.
According to sources, Joseph Orapallo, 57, and his son Frank, 22, were arrested early Wednesday after the NYPD Financial Crimes Task Force raided their house in New Dorp.
The father-son combo are related to Joseph T. Tomasello, a legendary Colombo crime family boss who was arrested in 1998 on racketeering and murder charges after years on the run.
During the raid on the Orapallos’ home, cops discovered a large cache of weapons, including rifles, shotguns, and ghost guns, which are firearms without serial numbers that can be assembled from a kit.

According to authorities, the raid also turned up ammo and 3D firearm-making equipment. According to sources, the pair are facing federal weapons charges.
It was not immediately obvious whether the Orapallos were involved in organized crime.
However, in an apparent attempt to separate himself from his mob leader father, Joseph Orapallo began using his mother’s maiden name years ago.
His father was apprehended in the late 1990s at a hideout in the Catskills, after nearly a decade on the run.
According to the Daily News, Joseph Orapallo informed police of his father’s whereabouts on the eve of his wedding.
Tomasello was eventually imprisoned on allegations of racketeering and participation in five killings in the Big Apple between 1991 and 1992.
He died in 2016.
